The practice of psychology, and more specifically psychotherapy can be hugely beneficial to those struggling with difficulties compromising mental wellbeing. Psychotherapy techniques and practice vary widely from therapist to therapist. There are hundreds of techniques and theoretical approaches in psychotherapeutic practice.
My personal and professional interest includes, but is not limited to, psychodynamic therapeutic treatment, a form of depth psychology. The primary focus of which is to reveal the unconscious content of a client's psyche in an effort to alleviate psychic tension impacting on every aspect of the client’s life. It is the belief that the client’s life issues and dynamics will re-emerge in the context of the client-therapist relationship. Psychotherapy involves the use of techniques based on experiential relationship building, dialogue, communication and behaviour change through improved insight, and are designed to improve the mental health of a client.
